Changing Seasons

I always say that around the 7th of August the weather cools down for a few days and there's a feeling of Autumn in the air. One year my Mother lost her entire garden during this week when the night temperatures dipped below freezing. We are, after all, living in the Rocky Mountains.

The sun angle lowers and sunset and sunrise are noticeably closer together. This is Teltane on the Celtic calendar. A time when people in the British Isles conducted festivals marrying the sun to the earth assuring them of a long and fruitful harvest. I always greet this shift with mixed feelings. It's such a relief to feel the blaring heat of summer is easing......yet wistful to think that summer days will end. Time to savour every moment and drink in the sound of crickets filling the air with pulsing sound at dusk.
