Harvest

Half the fun of growing things is harvesting them.  Whenever I pick berries in mid-summer I can't help thinking of all the delicious things I'll make throughout the winter.  It keeps me picking.  Maybe my mother and grandmother felt the same way.  There's something so satisfying about knowing how much I'll enjoy the literal fruits of my labor all winter long.  Here my treasures are golden currents, cherries, serviceberries, and red clover for tea.  The currents and clover will go in the food dryer and then into glass jars for storage, the cherries and serviceberries into the freezer.  I love watching my stores build up over the summer.
