Oriental Poppies

This morning two oriental poppies opened despite grey skies and rain! It's been such a cool, cloudy, rainy June that most flowers are growing lush with green foliage but few are opening their faces and showing their beautiful early summer colors. They are used to more heat and sun than we have had. The weather is a blessing though as we are in drought conditions and face a potentially serious forest fire season. If this weather keeps up all summer, the flowers may continue to unfold reluctantly.....but we''ll breath a sigh of releif.
