Last Tulips

The last two tulips fade under the shelter of a birdbath. Safely past freezing nights, birdbaths are filled and tulips give way to Iris, Blue Flax, and Columbine. I love the slow transition through the blooming season from bright reds and yellows of early spring, to soft peaches, pinks and lavendars in early summer, and finally rusts, golds and purples as fall is ushered in. The early June flush of pastel flowers, emerald leaves, blue skies, and white clouds is especially magical.
