Vegetable Report

The vegetable garden is growing despite it's many challenges. Herbs have come forth unperterbed, Tomatoes, potatoes, onions, leeks are of little interest to pests so far. Half a row of cabbages have been pulled under ground and eaten by Pocket Gophers, but the other half is weathering nightly vole munching pretty well.

Grasshoppers are on the rise. Naturally this is the high point in their population cycle over a several year period. Wouldn't you know? Alarming numbers can be seen everywhere. Garden centers are filled with people asking "What do I do about grasshoppers???"

Establishing winter hoop house crops is another matter. It's time to plant the winter season. Can we get some of these plants past the pests????
