Earlier this summer my neighbor had three half grown hens that she needed a home for and she offered them to me. Their mother was an Araucana and their father a Barred Rock. Since I lost several of my hens over the spring I was happy to adopt her chickens. When I came to pick them up her son looked at me and said "What color do you think the eggs will be?" I laughed because it was a great question! The Araucana's normally lay green to blue eggs, and the Barred Rock's lay brown. When my new hens finally started laying a few weeks ago, here's how they turned out....one light green, one light brown, one dark brown. This post is for you Luke!!
