Fur Coats

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where the 4th of July involved sitting around a smoky fire, in the pouring rain, cooking salmon (delicious!). Since moving to Montana, the weather on the 4th has always been varied, but never as cold as this year. While the rest of the country was burning up, we huddled in jackets and hats. My 90 year old mother still sits around the fire with us and heads to town for fireworks late into the evening. When I was a kid she always said "If you never need your fur coat any other day of the year, you need it on the 4th of July." That certainly proved true this year!
