Roosters

This week we moved nine hens and one rooster into the garden. We have friends who needed to find a home for their flock. We divided our larger vegetable garden into sections letting the chickens till for us and help control voles, pocket gophers, and hordes of grasshoppers.

Since we already had a small bantam rooster, the two roosters immediately tried to have a big fight at the fence line. Luckily the fence held and they resorted to crowing matches for a few days. Today they seem to have quieted down a bit which is a great relief.
